北京大学是中国近现代音乐教育的发源地。北京大学艺术学科，植根于北大丰厚的学科沃土和悠久的人文传统，挺立于我国现代高等艺术教育和艺术理论探索的潮头，经过百年来的发展，已成为全国高校美育和艺术教育的中心。北京大学艺术学院设有艺术学理系、影视学系、美术学系和音乐学系四个教学机构，形成独具特色的艺术学科传统。
隶属于艺术学院的北京大学民族音乐与音乐剧研究中心，致力于中国民族音乐研究、中国音乐剧创作、与西方音乐剧的对话与交流，精心建构音乐剧专业硕士的培养模式，教学—研究—创作相互链接并行，先后创作并公演了大型音乐 剧《大红灯笼》《曹雪芹》《元培校长》《大钊先生》，引进并公演了美国音乐剧《肉桂女孩》中国版。创办了北京大学国际音乐剧研讨会、音乐剧学院奖、中关村国际音乐剧节、北京大学音乐剧公益课堂、中国原创音乐短剧剧本大赛、音乐剧名家系列讲座等学术活动，为中国音乐剧艺术的发展做出了积极贡献。
About Host
Peking University is the birthplace of modern music education in China. The art discipline of Peking University is rooted in the rich discipline fertile soil and long humanistic tradition of the university, and stands in the tide of modern higher art education and the exploration of art theory in China. After a hundred years of development, it has become the center of aesthetic education and art education in colleges and universities all over the country. The School of Arts of Peking University has four teaching institutions, namely, the Department of Art Theories, the Department of Film and Television, the Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Music, forming a unique tradition of art.
The School of Arts of Peking University established the Ethnic Music and Musical Theatre Research Center, which is dedicated to the dialogue and exchange between Chinese musicals and western musicals. Since the establishment of the center, the training mode of master of musicals has been carefully constructed and the teaching, research and creation links have been paralleled. The large-scale musicals Red Lantern, Cao Xueqin, President Yuanpei and Mr. Dazhao have been created and performed one after another. The Chinese version of the American musical Cinnamon Girl was introduced and performed. The center founded the Peking University Musical Master Class, Zhongguancun International Musical Festival, Peking University Public Musical Classes, Original Chinese Musical Skits Contest and Chinese Musical Creation and Industrial High-end Forum and hosted academic activities such as lectures by famous musicals, which has made positive contributions to the development of Chinese Musical Art.
